A total of 80 women, including 20 California residents, ages 18 to 54, competed in the 10-episode series that airs on Comcast SportsNet.  The women spent three days and two nights training with world military boxing champion Omar Akl at different locations around Eldorado County in an intense 18-hour workout.  In this weeks episode, Akl challenges the women in chopping wood, swimming, street fighting and other extreme challenges to test them physically and mentally.  Karen Barbarick (39) of Applegate said “it was just what I needed to take me to the next level.”

One competitor from each of eight (8) episodes competed in the season finale for a chance to win a jackpot of up to $25,000 for herself and her team.

Omar’s philosophy that you can do anything as long as you put your mind to it motivated the 12-contestants in the episode that was shot last June to push them selves further than they had ever dreamed possible.

“It really is all mental, I think I always knew that, but just not so intensely,” said Wendy Lautner (26) of Fair Oaks, after completing the 3-day event.  Lautner is originally from Traverse City, Michigan where her parents still live, and her father is featured on the episode as well.

Still photos from the episode are available to members of the media for publication and contestants on Wednesday nights’ episode are also available to be interviewed.
